Apollo 11 was the first manned mission that landed the first humans on the moon. Apollo 11's primary mission was to perform a manned moon landing and to return safely back to earth. The spacecraft was launched from Cape Kennedy on July 16, 1969. Michael Collins was the command module pilot. He piloted the spacecraft alone as the first steps taken by man were taken by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on July 20, 1969.
